RYA Advanced Powerboat Course

The RYA Advanced Powerboat Course is designed for experienced powerboaters looking to progress to a high level of skippering and decision-making in more demanding conditions. Building on the skills developed at Intermediate level, the course focuses on planning and undertaking coastal passages by day and night, advanced boat handling techniques, and the safe management of a powerboat and crew. With relevance for those intending to operate in a commercial or professional environment, this course provides excellent preparation for the RYA Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence.

Duration: 2 days plus 1 night-time navigation exercise

Minimum age: 17

​

Previous experience: Candidates should be competent to the standard of the RYA Intermediate Powerboat Certificate, with a thorough knowledge of navigation and chartwork to the level of Coastal Skipper / RYA Yachtmaster Shorebased. It is strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid certificate and a VHF/SRC operator’s certificate. Location: Based in Port of Poole Marina, in the heart of Poole Harbour, we can boast one of the best Powerboat training locations on the South coast of the UK. Onsite facilities include our Training Room, parking and changing facilities with showers.

Poole Harbour and the surrounding coastline provide the ideal training area with sheltered waters for initial learning, an array of buoyage and sandy beaches to practice anchoring and make for an all round great day out on the water.
